Our goal is to remain the preferred engineering company in the Tennessee Valley and other regions throughout the Southeast by providing excellent engineering, design and consulting services in a safe, cost-effective, profitable and timely manner.  We value our relationships with our customers and are committed to maintaining their confidence by providing consistent, high-quality deliverables and emphasizing fair and ethical work practices while continuously improving our workplace methods.


HCS Engineering Company (HCS) is the product of a merger between Hodge and Conway Engineering Company and State Engineering Company. Our offices are located at Beltline South Office Complex, 2042 Beltline Road - Building E, in Decatur, Alabama.

Key Moments

  • Established in September 1992 as State Engineering Co.
  • Completed first HAZOP study in 1993 for Monsanto (now Ascend)
  • Completed first Mechanical engineering project in August 1993 for Amoco Chemical Co.(now IVXP)
  • Moved office to current location, Beltline South Office Complex, in 1994
  • Hired first employee in 1994 to expand into I&E engineering
  • Expanded office in 1996 to accommodate growth
  • Merged with Hodge and Conway Engineering to form HCS Engineering in October 2002
  • To-date have provided engineering and design services to more than 100 clients, supporting over 5,000 projects

  • HAZOP study for PEAT International, Koashoung, Taiwan
  • Construction Management for Resin Manufacturing Expansion at 3M (2007-2009)
  • AMT project at bp Decatur Works (formerly Amoco Chemical)
  • $100 million dollar expansion of bp Decatur Works in 2007
  • Single Reactor Design Project for OCI in 2008
  • Pneumatic Conveying and EG Transfer Systems for AlphaPet (2007-2009)
